iTown is focused on serving primarily non-metropolitan
cities and towns with populations as large as 125,000 and as small as 5,000 where they are part of a larger economic community.
West Virginia First Advanced Broadband Project
iTown is currently engaged in a statewide project to design, deploy and
operate Local Community Public-Use Networks for interested communities across the State of West Virginia. The project is intended to place West
Virginia at the forefront of broadband advances allowing participating communities to take advantage of the benefits of advanced, high capacity
infrastructure that will greatly contribute to increased competition for communications services, economic and community development, and improved
entertainment services.
Two Local Community Public Use-Networks are currently in development:
- Beckley Service Area with Local Sponsors including the City of Beckley, Raleigh County and Fayette County
- Bluefield Service Area (including Mercer County) with the City of Bluefield as the Local Sponsor
iTown has organized a $37.9 million loan through the U. S. Department
of Agriculture, Rural Utility Service Broadband Loan Program for the Beckley Service Area LCPN. The loan represents a major contribution to the
total financing needed to deploy the network and initiate operations.
